ATTENTION! TigerConnect Administrators and Users – Make sure you have updated your Desktop App to version 5.3.1 by October 31, 2022. Contact your internal IT department for assistance!SUMMARY: To reap the benefits of the feature upgrades which improve the user experience for TigerConnect customers, users must be on the most current versions of both the mobile and desktop applications. When TigerConnect attempts to roll-out feature upgrades, often an older version of the app cannot support it and may cause the application to not work at all.In addition, the continued use of old or obsolete versions of operating systems or applications exposes your organization’s computers and mobile devices to various security threats, which could compromise access to PHI data. We recommend that application updates become a regular component of maintenance and are reviewed every 6-weeks. Apple and Android systems are updated regularly which can impact performance of the TigerConnect app.The most current
How to Create Better Physician Schedules: Integrating Technology and DataBy Justin Wampach, founder of Call Scheduler, & VP of Scheduling Division at TigerConnectFor physicians and other caregivers, every second counts. There are more patients than ever before in the healthcare system. Hospitals increasingly face overcrowding, and doctors are asked to do more with less. Healthcare providers don’t have enough hours in the day to provide the care patients deserve, let alone devote themselves to physician scheduling. The average doctor would need a staggering 27 hours daily to provide effective care for all their patients. A new survey by Medscape News also indicates that working too many hours is leading to caregiver burnout – with fifty-seven percent of physicians working 71 or more hours weekly and about half spending 60-70 hours on the job. Forty-four percent of respondents say they’ve experienced severe burnout due to these long hours. With the odds not in their favor, how can d

How Medical Systems Solve Clinical Workflow Challenges with TigerConnect Roles and TeamsBy Will O'Connor M.D., CMIO at TigerConnectThe healthcare industry is undergoing a dramatic transformation. More patients in the system and increasingly complex industry regulations make it difficult to manage clinical workflows across medical providers, groups, teams, and hospitals. According to a recent analysis of 23,000 medical malpractice lawsuits, it’s estimated that 7,000 of these cases were preventable with better communication. In fact, those clinical communications breakdowns resulted in nearly $2 billion in malpractice costs and almost 2,000 preventable deaths. Reliable and effective healthcare demands a functional collaborative effort across clinicians, surgeons, and healthcare facilities. Whether it’s transferring medical records, providing access to scans and images, or facilitating diagnoses and patient interactions – integrated clinical communication is a must. With so much at stake,
Minimizing the time it takes to communicate effectively in treating traumatic injuries can determine the patient’s quality of care. The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Medical Center excels at this and has dramatically improved workflow efficiency. Tiffany Kuebler, PA-C, MMS, became the trauma center’s first physician assistant in 2007. She currently staffs one of three trauma teams specializing in the care of trauma patients and is the medical director of Clinical Informatics at the University of Maryland Medical System.“We have a 96% save rate. How to Leverage Communication and Data to Improve Patient HandoffsThe patient handoff process is a sensitive period, rife with potential error. According to the Joint Commission, most serious medical errors involve miscommunication during patient handoffs between providers and care settings.¹ Whether transitioning care to another shift, team, or organization, communication gaps leave patients at risk.Examples of common healthcare communication gaps:A specialist is not notified that their patient has arrived on the floor, resulting in dangerous wait times. Medication changes are not communicated to a new care provider, causing the patient to revert to old dosages. A patient is referred to a nursing facility that is not equipped to facilitate their rehabilitative care, resulting in poor postoperative recovery.Healthcare organizations can reduce risks by combining real-time clinical communication with in-depth patient data and trends. Below are four strategies for streamlining patient han

Understanding the financial impacts of clinical communication and collaborationAddress costly system-wide challenges simply and efficiently In recent years the healthcare industry has endured significant staff shortages, increased patient volumes, and rising expenses. Increased pressure has led to four significant threats to patient outcome and total revenue: system-wide inefficiencies, tool complexity, care team burnout, and ineffective patient processes. With various departments attempting to communicate with one another, it is no surprise that a lack of streamlined clinical communication and collaboration has led to prolonged length of stay, frustrating phone tag, unsatisfactory patient outcomes, and financial bleeding. These challenges create a chaotic atmosphere and costly miscommunication that amounts to 30% of malpractice claims, $1.7 billion in hospital costs, and 2,000 preventable deaths yearly. How can healthcare executives balance the pressure to be profitable with seemingly

How to Create Fair (and Pain-Free) Physician SchedulesEliminate physician scheduling issues that lead to burnout while saving time and increasing productivity.By Ricardo Estrada, Senior Product Marketing Manager at TigerConnect Ask any practice administrator how they feel about their clinic’s physician scheduling process. They might grimace as hours spent in spreadsheets, archaic systems, multiple channels for change requests, and frequent miscommunications come to mind. How healthcare communication disconnects impact patient outcomesBy Will O'Connor M.D., CMIO at TigerConnect In healthcare, timely communication is essential for patients to receive necessary—sometimes lifesaving—care. However, patients often engage with multiple professionals who can work across various departments, geographies, or organizations. Naturally, it is easy for delays in communication or even miscommunication to occur. Unfortunately, that can stand in the way of effective information flow and impact patient care. The innately distributed nature of healthcare makes communication disconnects all too common, which can cause preventable problems can follow.Just how big is the issue? Patients don’t receive the medical care they need, and doctors lose time they could have spent tending to other patients on their lists. Furthermore, no-show appointments cost the medical industry up to $150 billion a year in the United States alone.Ultimately, every medical practice should prioritize decreasing no-show appointment rates. Modern patient engagement tools can help you decrease no-show appointments and create a better patient experience. Why do patients “no-show” to medical appointments?Patients don’t show up to medical appointments for numerous reasons, including:Forgetfulness Family or job obligations Financial difficulties Transportation issuesLack of patient engagement is another common reason patients don’t sho
The American Nurses Association established National Nurses Week in 1985 to honor nurses’ contributions to advancing the profession and the healthcare industry. The celebration has since expanded into an entire month, which is a great opportunity to highlight how important nurses are to healthcare. In recognition of National Nurses Week and Nurses Month, TigerConnect and Critical Alert are shining a spotlight on nurses who have made a significant impact on their patients and their colleagues. This year, we are dedicating our Nurses Month celebration to Mary Eliza Mahoney, a trailblazer in nursing, who became the first African American licensed nurse in 1879. She also worked tirelessly to diversify the profession by advocating for hiring black nurses and helping create opportunities for them. For Mahoney, healthcare was a civil right. A human right. 4 Ways Patient Engagement Makes Patient Outreach BetterPatient engagement technology fosters interactive patient-provider communicationBy Chris Lowder, Senior Solution Architect at TigerConnect on March 25, 202240 – 80 percent of the medical information provided by healthcare practitioners is forgotten immediately. Almost half of the information that is remembered is incorrect. In the status-quo patient-provider relationship, communications between patients and physicians can feel like a one-way street. The physician (likely on a time crunch) asks questions, reviews medical history, requests labs and necessary diagnostics, and provides assessment and care recommendations to the patient – hoping that the care plan is understood. But what happens if the patient doesn’t ask questions during the appointment, misunderstands the instructions, and forgets to take their medication on schedule? Having a tool the provider and their staff can easily leverage to follow up with patients and possibly
