How Role-Based Communication Improves Clinical CollaborationBy Chris Lowder, Senior Solution Architect at TigerConnect onDecember 28, 2021 Many factors go into delivering excellent healthcare, including practitioner skillsets and modern healthcare technology like clinical collaboration platforms. Finding the right provider at the right time is critical to success, especially when patient experience is taken into account. Making this happen in real life is not so simple, either. Quickly and efficiently collaborating with the right care team member has long been a challenge. Delays in care coordination affect the quality of patient care. Delays and disconnects are unproductive for care teams and unprofitable for healthcare organizations. The struggle to locate the right doctor or nurse at the right time can be attributed to well-intentioned but obsolete reliance on pagers and phones. Modern clinical collaboration platforms offer a solution. With its ability to quickly locate and message
4 Ways Patient Engagement Makes Patient Outreach BetterPatient engagement technology fosters interactive patient-provider communicationBy Chris Lowder, Senior Solution Architect at TigerConnect on March 25, 202240 – 80 percent of the medical information provided by healthcare practitioners is forgotten immediately. Almost half of the information that is remembered is incorrect. In the status-quo patient-provider relationship, communications between patients and physicians can feel like a one-way street. The physician (likely on a time crunch) asks questions, reviews medical history, requests labs and necessary diagnostics, and provides assessment and care recommendations to the patient – hoping that the care plan is understood. But what happens if the patient doesn’t ask questions during the appointment, misunderstands the instructions, and forgets to take their medication on schedule? Having a tool the provider and their staff can easily leverage to follow up with patients and possibly

Why Physician Scheduling Software Is Critical for Providers Work Smarter, Not Harder with a Physician Scheduling Software Solution By Justin Wampach, founder of Call Scheduler, & VP of Scheduling Division at TigerConnect What is physician scheduling software?Physician work-life balance and effective physician call scheduling can both be accomplished by one tool: physician scheduling software. Health systems used to make a weekly or monthly schedule by hand, meaning an employee had to dedicate time and energy to figuring out how to put the on-call schedule puzzle pieces together. He or she would have to make sure not to overschedule some doctors while underutilizing others. Additionally, there had to be a system in place for any changes or requests. This “system” could include verbal, texted, or emailed requests from doctors requesting time off. Mistakes are common using this system . While technology has improved many facets of the healthcare system, it has also changed how we s

3 Ways to Improve Physician CommunicationBy Ricardo Estrada, Senior Product Marketing Manager at TigerConnect onFebruary 1, 2022 Improving patient outcomes should be a core goal for every physician group. However, achieving that goal can become impacted if physicians, staff, and patients are not effectively communicating. According to a study, healthcare miscommunication is attributed to more than 7,000 malpractice suits resulting in nearly 2,000 deaths and $1.7 billion in costs. Clinical collaboration has many benefits and improves physician communication and workflows, leading to more effective patient care. Let’s look at the benefits of improving physician-to-physician and physician-to-staff communication and how not adopting modern communication tools can impact your physician group. Impact of ineffective clinical collaboration and communicationBeing tethered to old, outdated ways of operating negatively affects patient outcomes. Best Practices for a Successful Clinical Workflow Strategy Why does clinical communication matter? By Will O'Connor M.D., CMIO at TigerConnect on August 12, 2021 Clinical workflows enable doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate effectively and provide the best quality care for their patients. Each caregiver on the team has a unique and critical part to play. The communication between team members who work either with each other or across different hospital departments must flow flawlessly. Gaps in communication drive the majority of medical errors. Unclear communication between hospital employees can easily lead to poor patient care, including clinicians missing important information and procedures not being taken care of on time. What happens when the patient has already received medication but the nurse has failed to note it? Or it’s reported in a low-visibility location? Pertinent information is at the forefront of patient care. An excellent clinical workfl
7 Tips to Improving Critical Lab Turnaround TimesBy Will O'Connor M.D., CMIO at TigerConnect on January 21, 2022 Critical lab work always seems so easy on TV. A doctor yells out, “Get me a full workup, stat!” and the next thing you know, the patient is getting exactly the treatment they need. Cut to commercial. In real life, however, things are a little different. The lab does its best to deliver results to the care team quickly. The doctor who ordered the labs might have gone off shift before the results were ready. The lab pages someone else on the care team, but the recipient doesn’t reply because he or she is busy, or isn’t aware that critical lab results are expected. Time slips by, and patient care can suffer. With modern clinical collaboration and communication (CC&C) solutions, the time between critical lab work being ready and the care team taking meaningful action based on the lab results can shrink dramatically—improving patient care in the process. Improving Critical V

Purpose-Built Clinical Communication and CollaborationBy Will O'Connor M.D., CMIO at TigerConnect on September 7, 2021 In healthcare, efficient clinical communication and collaboration matter. Providing the best possible patient outcomes requires clinicians and care teams to be reachable at the right time. However, far too many healthcare organizations may depend on outdated tools, like pagers, fax machines, and landline phones, which slow down information flow and impair clinical decision-making.Without question, healthcare communications are ready for an upgrade. Driving Healthcare Profitability and Patient SatisfactionHow COVID-19 Has Impacted Healthcare Revenue Hospitals have faced immense challenges since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. To combat the spread of the disease, follow social distancing guidelines, and accommodate incoming COVID patients, many outpatient facilities were shut down and elective procedures were postponed or canceled for months. One study showed that inpatient and outpatient volume have declined by 19.5 percent and 34.5 percent respectively. Since 30 percent of the revenue hospitals make is due to elective procedures, this shutdown has financially hit hospitals hard. Hospitals have also had to put funds toward increasing the number of staff on-site, paying for overtime, obtaining personal protective equipment, and buying ventilators and other necessary equipment. These combined factors have put the healthcare system in jeopardy. The American Hospital Association estimates that hospitals lost at least $
The Biggest Mistake to Avoid When Considering a Switch to EHR-Embedded Messaging How the desire for quick cost savings can result in long-term consequences to care efficiency By Will O'Connor M.D., CMIO at TigerConnect on October 19, 2021 Each year, a small number of healthcare IT buyers are tempted by their EHR vendor to replace existing secure texting software with EHR-provided chat tools. On the surface, this makes sense. After all, EHR chat tools are fully integrated with the EHR and they seem to perform similar functions. Plus, it’s one less vendor to manage, and it’s generally included at no additional cost. A win all around, right? Not quite. The mistake most IT buyers make in this situation is equating a secure texting solution with a more comprehensive clinical communication platform. They are vastly different. The secure texting solution you bought four years ago may have evolved into something much greater. The mistake that often results from this evolution is that healthcar

Clinical Alarm Management: Past, Present, & FutureBy Julie S. Grenuk, RN, MS, RCC / Nurse Executive at TigerConnect on July 16, 2021When it comes to a natural disaster like a hurricane, sound alarm management notifies people in time should they need to evacuate a high-risk area. Similarly, clinical alarm management refers to how a healthcare team responds to unfavorable changes in a patient’s condition. A good patient outcome requires striking a balance between over-responding to situations that don’t need any response beyond monitoring the patient and under-responding to situations that require further attention. The trigger for initiating a clinical alarm protocol can be either human, such as a nurse noticing a patient in distress, or technological, such as a change in a patient’s heart rate captured and relayed. Good clinical alarm management requires a cohesive and flexible plan that accounts for many possibilities. A commonly used tool is alarm management software. The need f
We made it, friends. The turbulence of 2020 is behind us, and a new year is well underway. If the previous year has taught us anything, it’s that preparation is key. Recent healthcare IT trends like advancements in smart tech and collaboration solutions aim to help clinicians plan for potential threats in the future. As a year filled with unprecedented shifts in care delivery, 2020 also pointed to the obvious: healthcare technology and digital health strategies are only set to grow from here. We’re already witnessing 2021’s healthcare IT trends in action, and as such, we’ve outlined a few that we expect will further develop as the year progresses. The American Nurses Association established National Nurses Week in 1985 to honor nurses’ contributions to advancing the profession and the healthcare industry. The celebration has since expanded into an entire month, which is a great opportunity to highlight how important nurses are to healthcare. In recognition of National Nurses Week and Nurses Month, TigerConnect and Critical Alert are shining a spotlight on nurses who have made a significant impact on their patients and their colleagues. This year, we are dedicating our Nurses Month celebration to Mary Eliza Mahoney, a trailblazer in nursing, who became the first African American licensed nurse in 1879. She also worked tirelessly to diversify the profession by advocating for hiring black nurses and helping create opportunities for them. For Mahoney, healthcare was a civil right. A human right. A social justice issue. At TigerConnect, we believe that nurses are the heart of the healthcare industry. We salute those who have dedicate

They use evidence-based practices and the latest technologies to deliver home healthcare. AtHome Healthcare of California provides exceptional home-based patient care with quality and compassion. However, it was difficult to read messages and obtain information in real-time, especially with limited staffing. Reducing Patient Readmissions with Data and Communication TechnologySpeaking with One Voice Matters When It Comes to Patient Care By Julie S. Grenuk, RN, MS, RCC / Nurse Executive on September 21, 2021 Reducing patient readmissions is a top priority for most health systems. A hospital readmissions reduction program will benefit from leveraging a unified clinical communication and collaboration platform to align care teams and keep patients on track with their care plan and recovery. Nearly half of U.S. hospitals will receive lower payments in 2021 for all medicare patients because of their readmission rates – an added financial burden as hospitals continue to feel the impact of the pandemic. But as Jefferson Health (formerly Kennedy Health) discovered, the solution may already be within arm’s reach – in their patient data. By leveraging the tools of an integrated, clinical communication platform, Jefferson Health drastically reduced emergency department (ED) overutilization, hospital r
For years (even back when a pandemic was something you read about in a book or learned about from watching Contagion), the US healthcare system has faced a nursing shortage. And now, during the COVID-19 crisis, there is significant and absolutely warranted concern that many in the current nurse population will leave the profession due to the extreme physical, mental, and emotional burnout they are experiencing all over the country.Bottom line is that caregivers are forced to continually do more with less in every hospital regardless of status or location and this has been especially true throughout the pandemic. Exacerbating the situation is the poor communication and collaboration that plague so many hospitals and healthcare facilities everywhere. With the extreme budget constraints that have only gotten worse during the pandemic, how can hospitals ensure that they provide the best possible patient care and deal with caregiver burnout? Care teams must be provided with the tools to work
